Pushya (पुष्य) is the 8th of the 27 nakshatras, spanning 3°20′–16°40′ Karka. Ruled by Saturn with brihaspati (preceptor of the gods) as presiding deity, it is a Swift (Kshipra) mansion — classically suited to works to be done quickly.

The character of Pushya
Pushya, the nourisher, is popularly the most auspicious of all mansions for buying and beginning — 'Pushya-day' queues at jewellers are a living proof. Kshipra (swift) by class and ruled by Brihaspati, it blesses purchases, worship, learning and medicine. The one classical caveat: it is not preferred for the marriage rite itself.
The four padas of Pushya
Each nakshatra divides into four padas (quarters) of 3°20′. The pada fixes the navamsa rashi — the finer layer a birth chart reads — and the traditional naming syllable for a child born under it.
| Pada | Navamsa rashi | Naming syllable |
|---|---|---|
| Pada 1 | Simha (Leo) | Hu |
| Pada 2 | Kanya (Virgo) | He |
| Pada 3 | Tula (Libra) | Ho |
| Pada 4 | Vrishchika (Scorpio) | Da |
What Pushya is classically suited for
In the seven-fold (Saptadha) classification, Pushya is a Swift (Kshipra) mansion. The muhurta classics assign it:
works to be done quickly — healing, starting studies, short journeys, trade, selling.
This class is the first screen Bela applies to every muhurat date: the day's nakshatra must suit the activity before the finer rules (tithi, yoga, choghadiya, Rahu Kaal) are even checked. See it working on the muhurat date lists, where every date shows its nakshatra-suitability rule.
