What is Baisakhi?
Baisakhi falls when the sun enters Mesha (Aries) — the mesha sankranti — fixing it near 13–14 April every year. It is simultaneously a harvest thanksgiving, the traditional new year, and the Sikhs' most important anniversary.
At Anandpur Sahib in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh initiated the Panj Pyare and created the Khalsa on this day, making Baisakhi the community's founding festival.
